Soul singer Eli “Paperboy” Reed can shout, wail and croon with the best of them and has been among the forerunners in a local soulful renaissance. Reed’s powerful voice will be backed up by the 10-piece High & Mighty Brass Band, who bring unshakeable funk and New Orleans sensibility to the East Coast.
Together, the groups will celebrate the release of an eponymous LP on Yep Roc Records at Brooklyn Bazaar. The 11-track album was recorded over three days in July 2017 on reel-to-reel tape. The album is a mixture of Reed’s original songs (including “Come and Get It” and “Take My Love With You”) and brassy covers such as “Love on Top” by Beyonce. The record will also feature a new song, composed by Reed, titled “As I Live and Breathe.”
The Paperboy and The Brass Band have brought their brass heavy soul to cities around America and will celebrate Eli “Paperboy” Reed Meets High & Mighty Brass Band on Thursday, April 26 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Brooklyn Bazaar is located at 150 Greenpoint Avenue. Ben Pirani and the Means Of Production will be the opener, also celebrating a new single release on Colemine Records, and Ben Pirani will also be spinning in between sets.
