I have to be honest, I only discovered this version of the Martha Reeves & The Vandellas classic just this past year, and how pleasantly surprised I was. This is a killer upbeat, funky Disco version on the Motown label from 1977, from Washington DC’s Dynamic Superiors. The Dynamic Superiors were founded in 1963, yet waited 10 years for their first recording contract, and came in the form of Motown. Seems like a result!
The Dynamic Superiors were unique in that, their singer, Tony Washington was openly gay, and often performed in drag, being not only a pioneer in Washington DC, but in Motown history.
