Filling in for Pete today, and a short story on todays show… when I moved to North Carolina from NYC, the Hip Hop and Disco records dried up, replaced by Gospel – and with some patience and listening to the discarded records at thrift shops and dollar bins across the south – I learned that not all – but some of this Country Gospel was the best country, and not all – but some of this Soul Gospel was the best Soul.
Setting aside intellectual thoughts on theology and having an open mind to the spiritual sentiment of these records was a musical rebirth. I found a genre I had ignored and was now falling in love with. The gems were there to be found again. And it makes sense as so many of the best soul singers of all time came from the church. Can I get a Hallelujah!
