Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti was a musician from Lagos, Nigerian. Fela’s legacy runs deep and proud – the extraordinary musicianship of his Afro-Beat was both tradition and future in pounding, banging epic tracks often over ten minutes in length.
Fela’s music never failed to capture the attention and deliver a socially conscious message from an African experience, spreading gospel through music all before the internet. His records were the message. Everyone should know Fela. There are also sample tributes to Fela from Paul McCarthy and Brian Eno.
This mixtape aired for the first time on the anniversary of his death. 15th October 1938-2nd August 1997.
