This week to celebrate his 70th show on The Face Radio, The London hippy kicks off a series of 7 shows dedicated to his favourite genres of the 1970s.
This week’s genre, British Folk Rock. During the folk revival of the late 60s, electronic guitars and mandolins fused with the hedonistic, long-haired hippy’s of the day and Folk-Rock was born.
As Americans enjoyed country-infused rock, the British turned to medieval, historical sounds of flutes and violins to create a genre that best explored by the likes of the Fairport Convention, Led Zeppelin and The Incredible String Band.
