The Café Atlas Obscura is serving Big Apple boogie and beat-the-heat ambient from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Discovering Kitschy Spirit Records was an early summer highlight—where I snagged a Special Species Records comp, a Michigan-based label out of L’Anse with ties to Calumet. It shimmers with floaty ambient textures, right in step with recent chillout releases from the Numero Group.
