Emile Hinton is a young jazz pianist from Cornwall, England. Last year he won the Tina May Young Jazz musicians award, supported Jean Toussaint and played everywhere from Ronnie Scott’s, Soho Pizza Express, Vortex, 606 Club, the Bristol Beacon and beyond. This autumn he will be studying at the Tribeca Jazz Institute in NYC focusing on his craft so I wanted to capture his excitement and explore the music that has led him to this moment in his early career.
It’s a wonderful conversation covering the Jazz playing of Thelonious Monk, the technicality of Sonny Clark’s playing, Emile’s upbringing and early memories of James Brown and Malian Blues as well his Hip-Hop high school days. Check this show out if you absolutely love Jazz; you may well learn something from this young cool cat.
