We may have mentioned it once or twice, The Face Radio, and sponsors Fred Perry and Modcup Coffee brought the Northern Soul premiere to Brooklyn.
The night kicked off at Fred Perry’s Brooklyn store with DJs Mikey Post, Gene Meredith and Kurtis Powers spinning classic and rare soul 45s. Attendees enjoyed some dancing and Mod-Fashioned drinks provided by Modcup Coffee.
After a few hours, people made their way to Nitehawk Cinema. We DJs Ol Stark, Mikey Post, and Kurtis Powers spinning more 45s, and some dancing and drinks.
Director, Elaine Constantine gave a brief introduction to the sold-out crowd, and the film was immediately greeted with a few chuckles within the first scene or 2 upon seeing a familiar face on screen.
The film ended with a roomful of clapping for Elaine’s fantastic effort for her first film. We immediately followed with a Q&A that was lead by Kurtis Powers and then opened into some great questions from many of the filmgoers. It was very casual and comfortable, and Elaine Constantine even told us, “this was my favourite premiere so far. It was so relaxed and comfortable with everyone. I even said the C word! I wanted to talk to everyone!”
The premiere was a massive success, and we hope to have Elaine back in the future! We’re also hoping this is the beginning The Face Radio’s series of Soul-inspired films at Nitehawk!
Thanks to everyone for attending, and thank you to Elaine Constantine for joining us!
