This week, Part 2 of the London Hippy’s 70’s Genre Guides. The satirical, psychedelic, beautiful fusion that is the Brazilian Art Movement of Tropicália.
Starting in the late 60’s during a military dictatorship, it exploded touching all corners of Brazilian culture, from art to film to music. Musicians were arrested and even challenged by both the left and right of the political spectrum.
The music that followed in the 70s was groundbreaking, fusing the rhythm of Afro-Brazilian drums and new age electric guitars.
