Representing Philly, Desmond West has prided himself on his ability to mold multiple genres of music into a 2-hour musical jaunt with his Premium Blend Show.
The Premium Show first aired on The Face Radio in December of 2020, and has been gaining momentum and dedicated listeners with each episode (every Saturday from 12 – 2 PM EST) ever since. With musical selections ranging from Hip Hop, Soul, Boogie, and World music just to name a few, Desmond always plays tunes that compliment each other; one right after the next.
Desmond began his DJ path in 2005, after realizing he needed to curate a mix of music that was heartfelt, and rhythmically satisfying. Desmond took the next step and commuted for 6 weekends straight (from Philly to NY) to attend the DJ Scratch Academy, to help hone his vinyl blending skills. After gaining a deeper love and appreciation for DJing, Desmond began networking and DJing in Philadelphia, with his first club gig at the legendary Arts Garage. While DJing at the Arts Garage, Desmond was honoured to open for Quest Love of The Legendary Roots Crew.
Desmond’s love for a wide range of music stems from his upbringing in the bicultural (African Americans & Puerto Ricans) section of North Philadelphia, and the musical influences from different family members. Desmond’s sharp wit and altruistic personality, helped bridge his DJ opportunities in and outside of the United States. Desmond has been able to share his love of music with the kind people of Cartagena, South America, Luzurne and St. Gallen, Switzerland, Salerno, Italy, along with a number of different states in the U.S.
Desmond’s all time favourite song is As by Stevie Wonder. With every lyric and instrument played, the song melodically summons a spell of love and happiness, that filters out any/every worry and concern of negative thought(s) present at the time. As Desmond’s favourite artist of all times, Mr. Wonder can always provide a soundtrack to fit every emotion, and AS is two-step approved on the dance floor, paired with beautiful lyrics that demands eternal love; until 8x8x8=4.
